MSA Board Elections

The time has come for the MSA community to elect a new Board for the upcoming year, please prepare to take an active part in electing a strong MSA Board who will be sincere in their service to Allah, to the MSA, IIT and the surrounding community. A new Board who will seek the pleasure of Allah by serving the Muslims in the IIT community, promote Islam on campus, create and upkeep the common understanding between Muslims and Non-Muslims.

The election process of the new MSA Board members shall be held starting 11/06/2009 and will end on 11/13/2009. The MSA Board consists of five male members. The elected MSA board shall take over the first week of the Spring 2010 semester. The newly elected MSA Board members shall meet and decide on who is the best member among them to be the MSA President for the forthcoming year.

Nomination Process

Nomination should be done through the MSA website by logging into myMSA.
Detail Instructions for accessing the MSA registered users website and nominating a person are provided in this document (.doc or .pdf).
Any MSA member who is a current IIT student can nominate himself or a friend to be a candidate for the MSA Board only if the nominee satisfies the nomination criteria mentioned below. There is no limit on the number of nominations sent by any individual. The nomination options are as below:

Self-nomination:

Anyone can nominate himself . Please provide the MSA with your First Name, Last Name, Banner CWID (A2000xxxx) and your IIT email address. The election committee will determine whether the nominated student satisfies the nomination criteria or not.

Nominating others:

Anyone can be nominated by a friend as long as the nominee accepts the nomination through a confirmation email to the MSA. Please provide the MSA with the nominee's First Name, Last Name and IIT email address. The election committee will determine whether the nominated student satisfies the nomination criteria or not.

Nomination Criteria

A candidate must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Has been a student for a minimum of six months at IIT prior to the election.
2. A Muslim male graduate student
3. Attends the main campus.
4. Has a minimum of six months remaining for graduation and be in good academic standing.
(Managerial experience is preferred but not mandatory)

Voting

Only MSA members who are current IIT students or IIT staff or faculty will vote to choose three candidates out of the candidacy list to be part of the new MSA Board. The highest scores of the top five candidates will be considered part of the new elected MSA Board.

Voting has to be done on the MSA website (http://msa.iit.edu) by logging into myMSA. If an eligible voter does not have a myMSA account, they should create one using the registration process provided on the MSA website. While exercising their vote, voters will be required to provide their First Name, Last Name, IIT email address and Banner CWID number. Bogus and/or duplicate votes will be disregarded.

Important Dates

11/06/2009 - 11/09/2009: Nominations open after Salat-ul-Juma on the 6th of November, 2009 and close at 7:00 PM on the 9th of November, 2009.
11/11/2009: The MSA Election Committee shall review the candidacy of all nominated candidates and release the final list of the nominated candidates. If the final list has more than five candidates then election will be held to form the new MSA Board among the names on the list.
11/12/2009 - 11/13/2009: Voting stats at 12:00 AM on the 12th of November, 2009 and closes at 4:00 PM on the 13th of November, 2009.
11/13/2009: Votes will be counted and results will Insha’Allah be declared at 7:00 PM on the 13th of November, 2009.

Disclaimer: The MSA Election Committee reserves the right to disqualify any candidate who does not satisfy the nomination criteria and/or is deemed unqualified as a MSA Board nominee. It also reserves the right to disqualify any individual vote not meeting the eligibility criteria.

New Lessons Schedule

MSA will be organizing lectures according to the following new schedule:

  • Mon: Tajweed Hifd w/ Br. Kaschif and Syed Q.
  • Tues: Hadith with Br. Adil
  • Wed: Tafseer w/ Syed Q.
  • Thur: Aqeedah/Tawheed by Musehaf
  • Fri: Lives of Prophets w/ Br. Tanim (Starts Oct. 9th)
All starting after Salaat-ul-Isha (7:00 pm) at Farr Hall, MSA.
 

Eid Ul Fitr Party

MSA cordially invites you to the Eid Party 2009. The Eid Party will inshAllah be held on 27th of September from 12:30 p.m till Asr at MSA (Farr Hall). Please come with your families and strengthen the brotherhood we had shown during the month of Ramadan. The Agenda of the Party is:

12:30 -1:00 Introduction + Socializing

1:10 - 1:30 Dhuhr Prayer

1:30 - 2:30 Quran Recitation and Intro Speech by President , Quiz competition, Kids games, Recitation Competition for kids, Toys Distribution

2:30 - 3:00 Appetizer Dish Competition, T-shirt Competition

3:00 - 3:45 Provision

3:45 - 4:25 Games for brothers, sisters and kids (winners get gifts) till Asr

5:00 Group photo outside.

There will be a recitation competition and gifts for kids as well as a playing area will be set-up

There will also be a T-Shirt design(design for the front print) competition for all the brothers and sisters combined. If you are interested in participating, then you have till Sunday to design. The designers should bring the color printouts of their design on A4 pages and put it in the box provided at the entrance of MSA. Make sure you have your name and email address on your submission. A panel of judges will decide 2-3 best designs (depending on number of participants) and they will get gifts.

There is a Snacks/Appetizers competition for sisters. To participate please bring your dish in a serving for 6 people. It will be judged and prizes will be given to the 2 or 3 best dishes, depending on the participants.
The dishes have to be from the category of Snacks or Appetizers for example Samosa, Potato Chops, Haleem, Cutlets etc.

Please bring your family along with you and celebrate Eid with the Muslim community at IIT.

 

Eid Ul Fitr with South Side Eid Committee (SSEC)

The MSA/IIT will be joining the SSEC to celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr. It is sunnah for Eid to have the Eid prayers in a large gathering of Muslims. Thus there will be no Eid prayer at MSA mosque, but the Eid prayers will be held at Taylor Park with SSEC. For transportation information, please see "Eid-ul-fitr 1430" information below. For the past 14 years the South Side Eid Committee has taken on the responsibility of organizing this blessed event. The South Side Eid Committee consists of volunteers from the Muslim community on the south side of Chicago and the greater Chicago area.
